Payroll Dates
Westcal follows a semi-monthly pay cycle of the 15th and the 31st. If a pay day falls on a
weekend, then you will be paid on the preceding Friday. Checks are mailed from the main office
generally two days prior to a pay day. Hourly employees are paid for the hours worked during the
pay period. Salaried employees are paid from the 1st thru 15th and the 16th thru month end. Call
the Westcal office to request a current payroll schedule indicating when time cards are due.
Direct Deposit
Westcal offers direct deposit of your paycheck into your bank account. You have the option of
depositing your check into several accounts. You can have a portion of your check go into an
account and still received the balance in a check. Call the office to request a direct deposit
authorization form and return it to the payroll department.
Full Time Status
To be considered a "full time," an employee must work a minimum of 30 hours per week on a
consistent basis. If you work less than 30 per week you will be considered "part-time" status.
Sick Time
Full-time employees are given 5 days at the beginning of each calendar year as sick days.
Unused sick days do not roll over to the next year nor are unused sick days paid at termination.
Vacation Time
Full-time employees of Westcal must work for the company for one full year prior to taking any
paid vacation. After working one year, you have earned 40 vacation hours and you begin accruing
vacation hours. After working two full years, you will then begin accruing vacation hours at 80
hours per year. After working for five years, you will accrue at 120 vacation hours per year.
Health Benefits
Full-time employees are eligible to enroll in a wide range of health benefits. Eligibility is
the first of the month following 90 days of employment. Open enrollment for medical is in November
of each year for a December effective date.
We offer a menu of medical coverages thru PacAdvantage which allows you to select a plan
which meets your individual needs. PacAdvantage typically offers coverage thru Blue Shield, Kaiser,
Health Net and others with both HMO and PPO coverages available at a variety of co-payment levels.
Westcal will cover a portion of the cost with the remainder paid as a pre-tax deduction from your
pay check.
Linked to the PacAdvantage medical is coverage for vision and alternative medicine. This
allows for benefits in chiropractic and acupuncture treatments.
In addition, dental and life insurance is also part of the standard benefits
package. We also offer a variety of supplemental coverages thru the AFLAC program. An AFLAC
agent will meet with you to discuss your options.
401K Plan
After you have worked for Westcal for over one year, and if you work at least 20 hours per week,
you will become eligible to participate in the 401K Plan. Entry dates are January and July of each
year. You chose an amount to come out of each paycheck, on a pre-tax basis, and you chose how the
money will be invested. There is a wide variety of investment options and several resources
available to you to assist you in choosing the right investment strategy to meet your retirement
goals. Westcal has the 401K plan with One America and their web site is at
www.aul.com.
Changes can be made to your investments easily and as often as you wish on the plan web site
or by mail. You may stop your contributions at any time then resume or make changes every January
and July. Should you wish to decline at initial eligibility, you will always retain the option to
participate every January and July thereafter assuming you keep your hours at or above 20 per week.
Once you accumulate $2,000 in your account, you have the option to take a loan against your 401K
fund. Minimum loans of $1000 are available, up to one-half of your account balance. Loans are repaid
by payroll deduction at prime plus 1% interest.
When you leave employment with Westcal, depending on your balance, you may roll the funds into an
individual investment account without penalty. There are severe taxes and penalties taken out of your
account for early withdrawal. The 401K fund is intended for retirement planning and should not be used
as a savings account as funds are restricted.
Company Meetings
Westcal conducts company meetings every quarter. At these meetings we provide additional training
on a wide variety of key issues in the property management industry. We provide up-to-date information
on many real estate laws, new compliance requirements pertaining to ADA and Fair Housing, Sexual
Harrassment training and safety related topics. Attendance at these meetings is mandatory for all
employees.
